If you find yourself missing someone, make sure what you’re missing is what you actually had, not what you wish it was the whole time. Because the latter is a trap that keeps you from moving forward, happily towards someone else or happily alone. I say this as someone who recently traveled down memory lane about a man I once loved many years ago, realizing that I missed all of the things that I hoped that we would be, not what was. Now what was, was beautiful at times as well, but not nearly as beautiful as the dream I created. And the dream never was. And thus I move on, happily alone.
