Tia & Tamera  |   Essence Magazine  |   April 2013

They’re so smart, talented and beautiful. I’ve always been a fan of theirs.

I watched Tia and Tamera on Style Network last night. As I mentioned a few posts ago, it’s one of the few reality TV shows (based on celebrity lifestyle, not a skill-oriented competition per se) that I like. They’re cool.
On last night’s episode, Tamera had a shoot for Monarch Magazine. (I…never heard of the magazine prior. Sorry if this makes me less cool.). I loved the outfits she wore and the sets. As a photographer, I LOVED SEEING A BLACK WOMAN PHOTOGRAPHER doing her shoot. (I tried to find out her name, but haven’t found it yet.) This is SO RARE on television when behind the scenes material is shown. No matter who is photographed, the photographer is usually a White man.
I think she looks fab on this cover.

Ok…well I’ve been trying to be more open-minded about reality tv despite my preference for well-scripted forensic and medical dramas, since reality tv isn’t leaving anytime soon.
I’ve watched 3 episodes of Tia and Tamera so far. Of course I’ve loved them since the days of Sister Sister and “go home Roger” and they seem nice and sensible, so I thought I’d give this show a try.
It’s pretty cool. It’s interesting watching them balance work and family. And, although they are wealthy as celebrities, they don’t seem (or live) so filthy rich that it turns my stomach. I mean…their homes and condos look like ones that well-off people (not me of course, hehe) that I know live in.
Both of their husbands seem really nice too from what I’ve seen. I don’t really follow pop celebrity blogs to know if any “drama” exists and haven’t directly followed their careers since their adolescence, so all I know is what I’ve seen on the show. It’s interesting seeing their similarities and differences as twin sisters and how different (not just racially…duh) their husbands are.
They’re just fabulous Black women living life. Cute show. Kudos to them.
